UNU-MERIT

UNU-MERIT is a research and training centre of United Nations University). UNU is an international community of scholars engaged in research, postgraduate training and the dissemination of knowledge aimed at resolving the pressing global problems of human survival, development and welfare. UNU-MERIT was formally established on 1 January 2006 following the integration of the former UNU- Institute for New Technologies in Maastricht and the Maastricht Economic Research Institute on Innovation and Technology, MERIT. UNU-MERIT is located at, and works in close collaboration with the University of Maastricht, the Netherlands.

SMIT stands for Studies on Media, Information and Telecommunication. This research centre is part of IBBT, the newly established Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology. SMIT specialises in social scientific research on socio-economic and policy aspects of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and underlying infrastructures. It combines both fundamental and applied research, and has been active in short and long term, as well as national and European research projects.

The Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (IPTS) is one of the seven scientific institutes of the European Commission's Joint Research Centre s (JRC). Its mission is to provide customer-driven support to the EU policy-making process by researching science-based responses to policy challenges that have both a socio-economic and a scientific or technological dimension. The Institute's main activities therefore relate to providing strategic support for the conception and development of EU policies. Its core competence is the ability to work at the intersection between the socio-economics of an issue and the science and technology involved.

Founded in 1948, the World Association of Newspapers groups 72 national newspaper associations, individual newspaper executives in 100 nations, 13 news agencies, and nine regional press organisations. It is a non-profit, non-government organisation. EC/DC collaborates especially with its affiliate organisation The World Editors Forum and its vanguard research unit, the Shaping the Future of the Newspapers-project.
